Interior Sealing
Penetrating (impregnating) sealers for interior marble, granite and other stone, tile and grout that repel water and stains, and when to reapply them.
Quick answer
A stone sealer repels liquids so spills do not soak in and cause damage. Impregnating sealers penetrate the stone and form a strong, resistant barrier against stains and water. Reapply every year or two, or sooner once the stone becomes harder to clean. Sealing does not protect against scratches, dull spots or dust.
Why it matters
Protecting marble and granite is the easiest way to keep them lasting. Sealing is the ideal way to finish any granite or marble repair, and it is one of the most important services we provide for natural stone.
There is a wide range of sealers and application methods; for most interior stone we use impregnating sealers that penetrate rather than sit on the surface.
What benefits
Sealing helps porous surfaces resist spills. Not every surface needs it.
Porous, acid-sensitive stone.
Still porous enough to absorb oil and wine.
Highly porous in tiled floors and showers.
Glazed ceramic and porcelain tile itself does not need sealing; its grout may.
Our process
The sealer goes on as the finishing step, after cleaning or repair.
01
Soil and residue are removed so nothing is sealed in.
02
The stone and grout must be dry before sealing.
03
An impregnating sealer penetrates and forms a barrier against stains and water.
04
Every year or two, or sooner once the stone becomes harder to clean.
Reapplying
Sealer wears with use and cleaning.
As part of routine stone maintenance, reapply sealer every year or two. The clearest sign is that the stone becomes harder to clean.
For acid-sensitive stone such as marble, limestone and onyx, a penetrating sealer cannot stop etching. A surface treatment such as MORE™ AntiEtch™ is designed for that.
Know the limits
Know the limits
Sealing repels liquids. It does not repair or protect against everything.
